Finally back from Oahu with my husband, but thoroughly enjoyed myself for ten days with loads of surf and other fun activities. When you live on a small island such as Maui, it’s nice to go to the city. For Mauians, that’s the island of Oahu. Moving to Maui from New York City, I occasionally get a rare feeling of the ‘need’ for some city-life. Usually a trip to Oahu fixes that desire, getting a taste of it and then back to my life on Maui. This trip did the trick! If you are looking to visit the islands for the first time, take some time researching what each island has to offer. If you are looking for a peaceful, tropical island experience than Oahu may not be your number one choice. However, if you are looking for some nightlife mixed with island surf and adventure than Oahu is a great choice.

Surfing in Oahu was really fun. We surfed Diamond Head mostly, Queens and Publics. The surf wasn’t enormous (waist high) but worthwhile due to the super glassy conditions and gorgeous backdrops. One particular morning surfing Diamond Head there was just three of us and all the waves we can ride. Of course, this lasted for about 30 minutes but it was worth every second. Although surfing was one of our main Oahu activities we had plenty of other non-surfing related fun on the beautiful island of Oahu. Check out the images below of our Oahu adventures.

The Bodies Exhibit in Oahu was a phenomenal exhibition that showed actual human specimens. It was fascinating, yet a little freaky, to see our bodies from the inside out. I don’t think I will be able to eat corn beef ever again.

Waterslide

The Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park was another highlight of our trip. I LOVE water parks and enjoyed this one tremendously. They definitely have some thrilling rides and I highly recommend to arrive before gates open. We got there early but it got crowded around noon. Check out Mike and I…I’m leading the race!

Shopping, shopping, shopping! I don’t shop while I’m no Maui…I’m actually not a big shopper. On Maui, there isn’t much selection and it’s not very inspiring. It’s when I travel that I put my shopping mind-set on and enjoy being a consumer. For those of you who don’t know, the Ala Moana Mall is the biggest outdoor mall in Hawaii…maybe the world. If you are coming to the mainland to Oahu you probably won’t be as impressed as this island girl was but nonetheless, it’s a great experience and besides, who gets to watch a hula show at their local mall back home?
